Cloudy with a Chance…

…Of Quantum of Nerdom.

Last night, I saw James Bond: Quantum of Solace… and it was AWESOME!!! Needless to say, Daniel Craig was both amazing and amazingly handsome. But the new Bond-girl was incredible! Her name is Olga Kurylenko. She was gorgeous, talented, and a total bad-ass. She better be in the next Bond flick.

A little bit of disappointment- the theme song this year. Jack White and Alicia Keys’ “Another Way to Die” wasn’t all that great. It’s was really crappy. Mind you, nobody does it better than “Nobody Does It Better” and my personal favorite “Goldeneye”, but come on, Jack and Alicia, we can do better than that right?

I realized something while watching the previews before the movie… Is James Bond only for nerds now??? Because every single trailer showed before the film catered to a class of dork:

  1. For the television nerd: The New Star Trek Movie. As soon as the little kid climbed over the cliff’s edge and said, “My name is James Tiberius Kirk,” I knew it was Star Trek. Now look, I’m not a trekkie. I don’t go to conventions, I don’t have the shirt with the stripe and the logo, and I can’t speak klingon. When I was younger, my dad and I used to watch the old Star Trek movies; it’s kind of a bond that we have. Also, during the trailer, I recognized that Spock is played by the guy who plays Sylar on NBC’s heroes. Yeah, I’m excited to see it.
  2. For the comic book nerd: Watchmen. I’ve never really been all that into graphic novels, but everyone I know who does read them says that Watchmen is incredible. So, I’m kinda considering buying it. It seems like a really good movie, and it’s got the same visionary director as 300 (bloodiest-yet-awesomest movie EVER), but it’s Rated R, so I can’t see it. Crapple.
  3. For the science fiction nerd: The Day the Earth Stood Still. I really wanna see. Not because of the special effects, not because it’s a remake of a classic, and not because Jon Hamm aka Don Draper is in it (well, actually yeah. Kinda because of that). I want to see it because the trailer is so freakin’ vague and I need, need, NEED to know the plot. I know, I know, I could just watch the original and see how it ends, but I don’t have Netflix anymore, so deal with it.
  4. For the war obsessed nerd: Valkyrie. Ehh, I’m not much of a WWII movie person, but I do like Tom Cruise movies, and I’m almost certain this movie is going to be nominated if not awarded a few Oscars. So I’ll check it out.
  5. For the chick nerd: Seven Pounds. Will Smith is in it. Enough said, am I right ladies???

So, since they’re targeting the “socially-challenged” crowd, does that mean James Bond is for dorks now?

Meh, probably not. But go see it anyway; it’s totally worth it.

WRITER’S NOTE: Don’t be offended by the whole nerd thing. If you can’t tell be now, I am socially-challenged, and damn proud of it.
