I’ve got really bad news:
I BROKE A B R A C K E T !!!
Here’s what happened:
My wisdom teeth are growing in, so it hurts really badly when I chew in the back of my mouth. Now, I have to chew in the middle of the side of my mouth. Well, yesterday morning, I was eating some cherries for breakfast. When I bit into one of the cherries, the pit slipped into a gap where my canine teeth used to be (I had to get them pulled out because they were still baby teeth). Without knowing this, I bit down, causing the wire over the upper-canine-tooth-gap to jerk upward. It hurt a little but not much. However, I realized at night the wire caused to bracket to break off of the lateral incisor next to it.
I wasn’t really afraid to tell the orthodontist; I was just afraid to tell my mom.
When I walked into her bedroom to tell her, she was on the phone with my aunt and was talking about how frustrated she was with my grandmother. I thought to myself: She’s already got some bad news. She’ll either be even madder to find out about my bracket, or she won’t think it’s a big deal since she’s already mad about something else. When she got off the phone, she talked about the whole thing with my grandmother for about 20 minutes. Then when I was going to tell her about the bracket THE PHONE RANG! Right before the words came out of my mouth. When she got off the phone (it was my father who called) I finally told her. Here’s a transcript:
ME: Hey, do you want me to tell you bad news now or later? Because if you don’t want to hear it, it can wait.
MOM: Oh God; how bad is it?
ME: It’s not too bad. I mean, you’ll be mildy disappointed but not too much.
MOM: Does it have to do with you?
ME: Yeah.
MOM: Did you break something?
ME: Kinda…
MOM: DID YOU BREAK ONE OF YOUR BRACKETS?!?!?
ME: YES!!! I’m so sorry!
I told her what happened. It turned out it wasn’t that big of a deal (thank goodness). So now I have an appointment for tomorrow at 7:30 A-FRICKIN’-M to get it fixed. I hate early mornings.
Wow. That ending was kind of odd… Do you think?
